Celebrated annually on August 4th, Coast Guard Day commemorates the anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Coast Guard as the Revenue-Marine in 1790. On August 4, 1790 Secretary of the Treasury Alexander Hamilton established the Revenue-Marine to serve as an armed customs enforcement service.
